Low-emissivity glass (or low-e glass as it is commonly known) is an energy-efficient glass designed to prevent heat escaping through windows and external glass surfaces. Low-e glass has a coating which dramatically reduces heat transfer and reflects interior generated heat back into the room. There are a variety of online coated products available, giving differing energy efficiency performances.
The coating is applied by the exposure of the glass surface to vapours, which bind to the glass to form a permanent coating. With offline coated glasses, the vapour is applied in an additional process after manufacture and is also known as a “soft” coating.
